Transition.

The filmmaker Zina Saro-Wiwa presents an Op-Doc on black women’s decision to embrace their naturally kinky hair, rather than use chemical straighteners. Read the full article and support Zina’s Op-Doc here

I thought that this was a great Op-Doc and found myself wishing that it was a little longer. Typically I’ve noticed that people are able to make/keep major life changes when they have a deeply rooted long term goal. For example, many of these women are transitioning due to health related concerns. I’m happy to see that more women are being more pro-active and are learning about the ingredients that are in today’s beauty/hair products.

At the end of the day, be healthy and true to you however that may manifest itself.

Behind the scene photos from my recent photo shoot with The Fashion Hangers, a full styling team comprised of MUA Marie B, Wardrobe Stylist Mia LaShay and Hairstylist Tenease. Our photographer for the day was Thomas Mobley and I worked with fellow models Belle of 2 Snaps and a Twirl and Yabs.

The theme was “mixed prints”. It was a great team and we had a great shoot. Images to come soon :)

A thought about a quote

“Save your rejections so that later when you are famous you can show them to people and laugh.”

—Meg Cabot,
American author

I interpret this quote not necessarily as rubbing your accomplishments in the face of those who doubt you, BUT instead continuing to believe in yourself when no one else does.

Black models, natural hair and VOGUE

My boyfriend shared this article with me since I’m currently going through the whole natural hair transition journey.

I absolutely loved reading this article. It kind of made me tear up a little as it says something when women of color from various backgrounds have the confidence to say this is me! This is who I am! Especially in an industry where straight hair is more desired and manageable.
I’m excited for this movement not solely because of the natural aspect, but because of the embracing yourself as you are movement.  I truly believe that it’s not just a trend.

Check it out here and enjoy the weekend!
