I really enjoyed the images for Dolce & Gabbana’s SS 2013 Collection for Vogue Brasil. As someone who has learned more during the last few years about Brazil’s rich Afro-Brazilian culture/history, I was excited to see the colorful themes and gorgeous natural hair models (especially the little one with the BIG gorgeous hair). Definitely looking forward to seeing more advertisements like this with a little more focus on the Afro-Brazilian beauties taking front center.
Brazil, specifically Salvador Bahia is on my list of places to go soon…here’s to making that happen :)
Enjoy these images!

Afro inspiration.
This stunning editorial showcases models Genesis Vallejo and Kyle Forde for Grazia. Photography by Alastair Strong.
The afro has not only made a comeback with everyday women, but also in many 2012 fashion and beauty editorials. Here’s hoping there’s more to come in 2013.
With new hair comes new inspiration. Here’s someAfro Inspiration from Vogue Italia. These beautiful images caught my eye (and everyone else’s) a while ago, but I’m just now posting them.

I had the opportunity to do a video and look book shoot with another amazingly talented and inspirational female entrepreneur, Jennifer Elizabeth Miller. Jennifer is the creator of The JEM Collection, signature handmade (versitle) scarves for women and men. All of the scarves were so beautiful and versitle just in time for fall, so I will definitely be adding a few of these to my fall wardrobe!
I had so much fun on this shoot with fellow models Bonnie and Justin. Definitely can’t wait to share the final outcome :) Visit The JEM Collection website here.
It’s been a LONG time since I’ve posted to the blog…believe me I know. I’ve thought about my lack of posts often, but I’ve had quite a few life transitions since then that have kept me busy:
1. I recently had a HUGE chunk of time open up since my term as chair of a large women’s organization is over (yes!) Please be careful about major time commitments outside of your full time work. I’m so enthusiastic that I will now have more time to focus on the things that I’m extremely passionate about.
2. I’m team natural (hair) after transitioning since October 2011 and finally doing the big chop on June 29th. I’m loving my hair kinks and all, but I’m definitely trying to see where it will fit in when it comes to shoots/castings. For one, I know that constantly using heat on my hair will not be an option! I definitely plan on going wig shopping soon.
3. I’ve been writing articles on natural skin and haircare, brainstorming topics that I think people will want to read about and focusing on making some big changes to Model The Face. More is definitely coming soon!
The photos are from a recent video shoot that I did for Kolton.J jewelry. CEO Jenny Schretter welcomed me with open arms (natural hair and all) and for that I’m truly grateful! I love Jenny’s gorgeous pieces and the fact that she is a female entrepreneur makes me want to support her work even more.

Those are a few of my updates. What’s been going on with you all?
Transition.
The filmmaker Zina Saro-Wiwa presents an Op-Doc on black women’s decision to embrace their naturally kinky hair, rather than use chemical straighteners. Read the full article and support Zina’s Op-Doc here.
I thought that this was a great Op-Doc and found myself wishing that it was a little longer. Typically I’ve noticed that people are able to make/keep major life changes when they have a deeply rooted long term goal. For example, many of these women are transitioning due to health related concerns. I’m happy to see that more women are being more pro-active and are learning about the ingredients that are in today’s beauty/hair products.
At the end of the day, be healthy and true to you however that may manifest itself.
My boyfriend shared this article with me since I’m currently going through the whole natural hair transition journey.
Check it out here and enjoy the weekend!
This documentary, “In Our Heads About Our Hair” explores hair culture in the black community.
